Woronora River Issues!

This is a site with information on the problems and issues with WORONORA RIVER will be stored and explained.. It will include all issues plus the SEWER issue of recent years.. This is the story of the FLOODING from the June 2016 and April 2015 storms when the sewer covers burst resulting in sewer waste being sent into the street and also residents yards and homes.
The issue of POLLUTION including H2S will be looked at. H2S or SULPHUR GAS is a story on its own. The problems have been with us for a while. It is just the last two very heavy STORMS that has highlighted the problems more with more people directly involved.
In the middle of all these issues we had the council bring up SEA LEVEL RISING PROJECT in the SHIRE to further complicate the overall issue. I will bring the overall situation together plus a submission I put into the Sea Level Study. ( this follow on next page. ) I have read an article on Sea Level Rising which give a different approach to the situation and lessons from this will assist in understanding some of the local issues. Strict guidelines are needed for building in this area. It would be interesting to see if Council regulations has taken account of this. Homes built on particular grounds must not insert pressure to the extent of pushing the ground lower and away from underneath. This would result in homes sinking. Homes need to be built to SOLID ROCK. I know of recent homes in the area that had to have foundations to SOLID ROCK. Residents had Flooding in yards and homes for the second time in 14 months and they approached Council and Sydney Water. Councillors and Local State member together with local paper were contacted. A petition was also taken up. Because of the problems a meeting of residents was established. From a meeting on 17th August 2016 a number of issues have come up which need to be addressed. A record needs to be kept of all the problems so they can be fixed and not forgotten. We must be careful we do not create future problems. After extensive checks SYDNEY WATER came back to the meeting and said they could not find what had happened. The one thing they did do was showed us the drawings of the SEWER mains for the WESTERN SIDE of WORONORA RIVER and said they could not find the issue. I looked at the MAPS and asked the question were the two mains one from the NORTH and the one from the SOUTH JOINED before they entered the pumping station. They stated they would check it out. Also we found out that NONE of the PIPES were monitored. NEXT MEETING with SYDNEY WATER we got the ANSWER. The pipes from the NORTH had their LIDS BLOWN OFF and were letting STORMWATER enter the SEWER SYSTEM. From pictures taken it appeared no access to them had been done for a while because of the very thick bush in the way. It gave SYDNEY WATER a VERY BIG JOB to FIX UP. The question of OVERFLOW is still an issue but we have NOT HAD a MEETING SINCE to FIND OUT the progress. We also noted to COUNCIL that a STORMWATER PIPE they show installed NEVER was installed. This is lower side of Prices Circuit on the hill. I knew because I at the time lived there and knew NO PIPE went in.

H2S SULPHUR GASWith information I now have on H2S and RADS I am doing further work on it and checking how it has affected me. I will give the FULL STORY what we have not been told so that we can get a solution to the problems we have. It is NOT a SIMPLE SOLUTION. It will take time. It will attack a human like that COVID-19 VIRUS.There is many questions to be answered from many areas including Sydney Water, Council and Health.
I have found the issue called RADS. This I am following up at the present time. This is a MAJOR ISSUE in the USA with young Children. It is an issue of RESTRICTED BREATHING. They get it in Central USA. I have been looking at RADS on FACEBOOK. It is very sad reading the problems mothers have with their young children. I have found more problems with RADS. It covers a lot of problems and issues. I am just not thinking of myself but on many other people who may be affected NOW! or in the FUTURE. It is a SERIOUS HEALTH ISSUE. There is also a growing infrastructure issue if NO ACTION is TAKEN. Since I first wrote this we now have COVID-19. How prepared were we for it. We were NOT! Look at the RUBY PRINCESS. Ones right at the TOP of NSW HEALTH were TOLD and SHOWN EVIDENCE. A few months ago I found out about BLACK MUCUS in your airways. What I read very trusted publication got me thinking where and how my BLACK MUCUS was produced. Indications all showed it was from rejection of my lungs of the SULPHUR GAS. I have had the issue I worked out for 14 years. My GP was changed so the NEW one would have NO IDEA of the very complicated history. It was against the RULES that they worked to. *** SULPHUR GAS does not rise above a metre. I had the PROOF that this was WRONG. *** I had checks going right through MEDICAL v REAL LIFE. They MATCHED. I rang my CARDIO and the RECEPTIONIST REFUSED to take an appointment. This was just after I read information from WHO about heart issues with COVID-19. She just said take vaccine for age group and that is it. I finished up screaming at her. I rang my lung SPECIALIST but appointment was two months off. Charge Full Appointment Charge. $400 with Medicare rebate coming off I have my Number 2 JAB this Friday. I will be looking for input from one's who understand the main issues that I am looking at. (1) The issue is where it appears you breath in the gas and it affects your throat. (2) Can your throat have a problem which make it easy affected by the gas. ( RADS ! ) (3) This issue with the throat affects your lungs. (4) The lungs being affected then in turn affect your HEART and its beating. (5) Other Issues of Health, Infrastructure caused by the Stormwater and Sewer issue.
I have action being done at present which I should have results in a few weeks. I am a ANALYST of BASIC indications. I do not say what medicine you should have or not. We do have in the MEDICAL AREA ones who should not be there. If one comes near me in a hospital I will tell him to GET LOST with the loudest voice I could raise.
I have good prospects of identifying the issues.

Submission Sea Level Rising

Sea Level Rise Study.
This is a submission on the Sea Level Rise study. Having lived in Woronora for my whole life I have used my extensive experience and understanding of the issues. Since my retirement back in 2004 I went through the process of building a new home which I wanted protected against any problems to do with flooding as I knew from previous home the issues that you can have. In fact I put into place a number of points not requested by council. But I could see issues that council still did not want changed. An example was you could not raise the level of your land because it would affect your neighbours home. It had to stay at natural ground level.
Then with a new home I went through a period of now up to 8 years with major issues with the stormwater pipe being replaced. I was affected in health and at present in the final stages of fully pulling the whole story together of the affects of acid soil in the area producing H2S gas. This is an area where no one in NSW understand it.
 With this I have done a lot of work in research and my findings will be a shock to a lot of areas. Then came the June 2015 storms. Then came this SEA LEVEL Rise STUDY. I started to look at the sea level area which is very complex but due to lack of information and data such as no monitoring of river level it has been very difficult. I do not agree with the statement that humans have produced the issue resulting in sea level rising for a number of reasons. I will give facts not just wild opinion. To do this I will look at a number of subject lines.
I have just had a look at the FLOOD LEVEL MAPS on the SSC web site. The mapping in Woronora is very suspect. But I almost fell off my chair when I saw the mapping for another area. Then I remembered this has come from the Stormwater section who think stormwater goes uphill to the ocean!!! Where did the levels come from.
We have a number of URGENT ISSUES that need to be addressed before this Sea Level Rise is debated. We will take action if you do not wait until the very important issues are answered. These are issues from the April 2015 and June 2016 storms which have not been addressed. They do have an effect on this study.
I have studied an article on SEA LEVEL RISING which brings up a number of very important facts. It does bring to question a number of facts being used by the ones around the World who promote sea level rising. Having studied the paper produced, I will highlight the main issues which it show’s up.
The whole issue of SEA LEVEL RISING is being used to promote some people’s future ideals. I will explain.

Sewer Flooding Issue

A customer survey sent out in October just looking at overflow in homes and yards from own sewer grates. Other issues NOT COVERED.
With the PROBLEMS in EARLY June 2016. Sydney Water has been in action cleaning and investigating the issues.
They found they could not tell where the issue came from as there is no monitoring of the pipes in the area.
It is the whole of the area WEST of the Woronora River and including BANGOR, MENAI, ILLAWONG, BARDEN RIDGE, ALFORDS POINT and LUCAS HEIGHTS.
Somehow a MASSIVE amount of water entered the SEWER system and caused the problem.
They are working on Identifying any issues at present.

Survey on drainage issues from sewer on own property. It appears NOT to address the issue outside of property. We need to Highlight that their is more than the infrastructure in each property. Everyone affected in any way need to return the survey. Survey being done by a company for Sydney Water. The works have started with TREES being removed from footpath. ( Wrong trees put in over 50 years ago )They will be replaced with trees that do not interfere with pipes etc.Work on the gutters has started. The Major works continue. On occasions smell has return and water entering river at low tide again. Noticed a couple of weeks before Christmas.
Work continue. Appear MAJOR ISSUE with connection from street to River. Prices Circuit has not been resurfaced. It is lower than gutters and now floods. Large Metal fence protect LARGE holes etc in frfont yards of two house's. Have not had much rain since. Just waiting to see what will happen.

Latest Information on H2S

I have found the missing link in HEALTH issues with H2S. It is under the name of RADS. Reactive Airways Dysfunction Syddrome.I have to thank the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health web site for the introduction information and various other sites for information. Follow the link below for some of this information.R A D S. There is more to this issue which we need to follow up on. Only a full analysis will show all the issues that need to be attended to. Quick analysis by groups will not give long term solution.At present we do not know if it is only H2S issue or other issues included. Pollution by sewer is this H2S or something extra.The River is known for its BLACK ROCK.( WORONORA ) Does it give issues! This all has to be addressed. Comments from NSW ENVIRONMENTAL Department is not helpful. " If it worrys you you should just shift home! "

Where is the

Fresh Air.

Introduction.
This comes from a situation in Prices circuit opposite Boomi Place when people walk past and the foul sulphate gas is detected by them and they have to wave their hands in front of their faces trying to get clear air.It is the result of Sulphur gas coming out of the stormwater drain. It happens due to acid soils on the river shore and having wind blow across it and up the drain. It will come out of the drain and movement of air in the street can have this air rise easy to head level of people walking along the road. It will also happen if acid soils are in the storm water pipe which was the case for a while.
To show the true conditions I need to show it in three parts.
(a) The history of the river.
(b) The true story of ACID SOILS.
(c) The story of 2015 and 2016 floods.
HISTORY of the WORONORA RIVER.
To understand the history of the river is very important in understanding how the environment has changed. This was started after investigation why a large area is called FLOOD PRONE LEVEL where we have not had a major flood for many years. I asked myself WHY!
It is noted that when storms come these days a lot of the rainfall is over the upper reaches of the woronora river. The area now above the Woronora Dam or in its catchment area. You can see this by observation of the Sydney radar during storms. Storms look like coming and they split with one part going over an area just west of Waterfall and the other part north towards Hurstville.
Now to understand historical situation I have to look at periods of time and what we had then.
To do this you need to look at time spans.
 BEFORE 1940.
There was major Floods. Article in local paper PROPELLER describe it. Massive rise in river level. Many homes were washed off their foundations and sent downstream by the flood waters until they reached the bridge where they were smashed.. This was stated by Al Bradshaw of St Peters who had a weekend place on the river. I knew where Bradshaw lived in the 1950’s. and it would have been spared. The house is where a reserve called Prices reserve is now with half of the property where the road is now. River rise of 9 feet in one hour. Was quoted by Ald Bradshaw. Many holiday homes washed away. Much rubbish washed down river. A lot of rubbish left on corner of Prices Avenue and Menai road. For recent people to the area this is now where NUNDAH crescent meet Menai Road at the foot of the hill. Schofields boatshed had quoted 100 tons of rubbish washed up there. I can not get a date but I appears to be around 1925. Ald Bradshaw stated that the flooding happened on a Sunday and he came back on the Monday to find human vultures going through the rubbish to see what they could get. . The dam was built between 1927 and 1941. After 1940 to1970.
We had floods but not the same as before 1927. New DAM being built.
I know from my very young years seeing floods on the river and notice of rubbish floating down the river. But NOT whole houses. NOT the MASSIVE RISE in river level. Watching from the high level of Prices Avenue where I lived I noticed during these floods trees and rubbish flowing down the river. Some small sheds also were seen. 1969-1970.
We had major development on Woronora River with Manilla Place,Boomi Place and Yanco Place. This took soil from the river.
In this development because of how it was done a number of issues were produced which have now given us serious problems.
Natural drainage of the hill behind the development.
 This was not understood and some work never done. Council show stormwater pipes which I knew never went in. The council looked and found out they could not find them recently.
 It appears they did not understand natural flow in storms. I knew this after growing up leaving on the hill and knowing where the water course was. I also knew that drainage pipes did not go in for homes on the Lower side of the now Prices Circuit. It show on council maps but it never went in. The water during storms just increase the water in the ground in the development area. The ground is under extreme pressure from this. It is one of the issues that made the acid soil problem worse.
A stone wall behind Yanco place was removed sometime around the development time. It has caused problems above. There is drainage issues there which had to be recently addressed. A chance this could also be caused by the way part of BANGOR storm water was done. The Observation needs to be done in heavy rain to see if there is an issue. I suspect there is. I did a check a few days after the 2016 issue and noticed a potential problem. Water going over the cliff into bush and down to Prices Circuit below.
The above all would be from development in Prices Circuit and the initial development in Bangor
 1971 onwards
Other developments in Woronora River, Bonnent Bay etc. It appeared Woronora River flowed into Georges river better.
We did have a very heavy rain storm in the early 70’Its at night after the development in Prices Circuit was completed. I remember it very well. I had to go to work on call out for PMG/TELECOM AND to Blakehurst exchange. If you I have never driven in such conditions, Oak road at Kirrawee was like a cyclone and cars were broken down everywhere and Blakehurst main intersection was a total mess. The found on arrival the new cable tunnel was full of water and water flowing out the back door. I had to get a fire brigade to pump out the water. I have not seen that level of water since. Since it appears the Georges river flow to the ocean has much improved. Suspect from Airport expansion. Lesson learn’t from above is when water flow is not BLOCKED by any turn it flow is much quicker. Reason why the Georges River still Flood upper of the turns in the river.
